1. benevolent – friendly and helpful Mr. Alpert is a benevolent dictator. 2. diligent – careful and hardworking Julie is the most diligent and humble person in the world. 3. haughty – arrogant, stuck-up George is always haughty and brags to everyone around him about how great he is. 4. inevitable – certain, unavoidable “Death is inevitable,” the philosopher stated. 5. mundane – ordinary, boring Mr. Alpert’s class is never mundane. 6. prudent – careful, cautious, wise My parents told me to make a prudent decision. 7. spurious – lacking authenticity, fake On Halloween, Mr. Alpert wore spurious hair. 8. superficial – shallow, lacking depth Mr. Alpert was superficial; he spent hours each morning looking at his luxurious hair in the mirror. SAT #2 1. counterfeit – fake; false The counterfeit money was used to buy a car; the robbers even got away with it. 2. covert – hidden; undercover I saw him walk to the closet and uncover a covert door. 3. renown – fame Damian Lillard’s renown has grown substantially these last few years. 4. credible – believable Your report about aliens seemed credible because you usually tell the truth. 5. blatant – obvious The answer to the single-choice multiple choice question was rather blatant. 6. headstrong – stubborn; willful Mr. Alpert is very headstrong about making sure we have a test every Friday. 7. lackluster – dull The movie was very lackluster. 8. tangible – can be touched It was so humid outside that the air felt tangible. SAT #3 1. hangar – storage area (like a garage) for a plane The pilot parked his plane in the hangar. 2. labyrinth – a maze I got lost in the labyrinth and used my new GPS to find my way out. 3. reprehensible – very bad My baby brother’s behavior was reprehensible. He threw up over everything. 4. plausible – can be believed; reasonable He had a plausible theory about UFOs. 5. enshroud – cover The rumors about the pyramids being haunted enshrouded the location with mystery. 6. tedium – boredom The tedium of today’s (not Mr. Alpert’s) class drove me crazy. 7. cryptic – puzzling Mr. Alpert’s statement about the test was cryptic. 8. curtail – cut short Because of the weather, our boat ride was curtailed. What is the definition of devotion? 4. What motivated farmers to serve the pharaoh? 5. How could a slave be freed? Finished with your story? If you've completed all of the writing process requirements and have turned in your revision packet, you may work on a short, short story. Create a Google Doc and name it "3-LastName-SAT#4Story." You must include at least five of this week's SAT #4 vocabulary words.
The story may be about a topic of your choice. If you need a story starter, take a look at the Wanderers website. Consider writing a first-person narrative of one of the explorers in the film. Please be sure to turn the volume off on the video. Create a Google Doc and share it with Mr. Alpert. Write down three interesting things that you learned from the article. Next, write three questions that you have from the reading. Perhaps there are some words or concepts that you don't understand. Maybe you want to know more about once specific idea. Anything that makes you curious or creates confusion should be mentioned here.
