Nobody in the outside world knew they were in trouble, much less where they were. THey had no radio transmitter with which to notify any would-be rescuers, and it is doubtful that any rescuers could have reached them even if they had been able to broadcast an SOS. It was 1915, and there were no helicopters, no Weasels, no Sno-Cats, no suitable planes. Thus their plight was naked and terrifying in its simplicity. If they were to get out -- they had to get themselves out." Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing and Nathaniel Philbrick (pg 8) Photo: dailymail.co.uk I've posted my syllabus and expectations contract for the coming year. It's posted here just for your reference. All students will receive a hard copy during the first week of class.
Requirements:
You must select seven total songs and write a justification for five of the seven. Each justification must explain in detail how the song relates to the specific scene or character in Stargirl. Refer to the examples provided in class. A few notes on music: Do not select music that would be inappropriate for school. This means that it should not have explicit lyrics in actual word or theme. For example, no profanity, but also no content that would be inappropriate for classroom discussion. You're earned the privilege of finding your own music, please do not abuse it. As a help, I've provided some instrumental references below. I'd be happy to provide additional resources if you're struggling to find good songs. Instrumental Bands: Mogwai Boards of Canada Explosions in the Sky More Explosions in the Sky Classical: Wagner Chopin Schuman Tchaikovsky Some people do, some people don't. Check it out.
